Cowboy Church #38

Hello my friends and welcome to another service of Cowboy Church.

Today's musical selection begins with a song from the original singing cowboy, Carl T. Sprague's 1927 recording of Rounded Up in Glory. Next comes the founder of bluegrass himself, Bill Monroe with his 1958 recording of Jesus Hold My Hand. This is followed by The Sons of the Pioneers with What You Gonna Say to Peter. This song was a Sons original written by their own Bob Nolan. The recording is from 1937, the last year Leonard Syle was a member of the group, as he would soon leave to start a solo career and change his name to Roy Rogers. Next comes another singing cowboy Don Edwards with Strange Things Happening in the Land. This is from his 2009 gospel album, Heaven on Horseback. After this is Johnny Cash performing his self-penned gospel tune, Wings in the Morning on TV in 1981. The mandolin player here is Marty Stuart. This is followed by The Hee Haw Gospel Quartet (Buck Owens, Grandpa Jones, Roy Clark, Tennessee Ernie Ford (instead of the usual Kenny Price)) performing Gone Home on 1979 episode of (you guessed it), Hee Haw. This followed by movie and country music cowboy, Rex Allen with a lovely version of Take Me Lord. Then comes Charley Pride with Let Me Live from his 1971 gospel album, Did You Think To Pray. Today's musical selection ends with Gene Autry's 1945 recording of his own self-penned Cowboy gospel tune, Silver Spurs on Golden Stairs

My movie selection for Today is Days of Jesse James (1939) staring The King of the Cowboys Roy Rogers as well as the always delightful to see Gabby Hayes. Some of Roy's earliest starring movies, featured real historical figures in them. This would fade given time. Days of Jesse James is by far one of the best of those films. An exhibitors review in The Motion Picture Herald stated, "Good picture for short run especially for children. Played it on Saturday with serial. One of the best Roy Rogers has made thus far. Business was better than usual. Put 723 children in matinee, seating capacity 661. -Evening played to over 500 adults."

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.' Acts 20:35

One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Proverbs 11:24

You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18

to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. Titus 3:2

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Galatians 6:1

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Titus 2:11

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Thank you for joining me come back next week for another service of Cowboy Church. Happy trails to you until we meet again.
