Cowboy Church #25

Hello my friends and welcome to another service of Cowboy Church.

We start our musically selection off with Hank Williams performing I've Got My One Way Ticket to the Sky. This 1951 recording comes from Hank's Mother's Best radio show. This is a very energetic and fun performance which allows Hank's backing band, The Drifting Cowboys time to shine. The harmonies between Hank and The Drifting Cowboys are as good as it gets. Next comes Johnny Cash performing a lovely story song entitled Suppertime. This performance is from 1958 on the Town Hall Party TV show. When introducing this song John states that "We've got it on our new album next week," he is speaking about the album The Fabulous Johnny Cash. This was John's first album for Columbia records. Before that he had worked at Sun Records. Sun Records producer, Sam Phillips had little interest in John recording gospel songs and he would record very little there. This is unfortunate for John, who originally wanted to be a gospel singer. With this it is now surprise that John would want to include gospel numbers on his first album away from Sun. John's next album would be a full gospel album entitled Hymns By Johnny Cash. Next comes Pasty Cline and Willie Nelson performing Just a Closer Walk With Thee. Next comes The Sons of the Pioneers performing the gospel classic, Leaning On The Everlasting Arms. This recording comes from 1937 and features my favorite lineup for the Sons. This is Tim Spencer, Bob Nolan, Roy Rogers, Lloyd Perryman, Karl Farr and Hugh Farr. Next comes Roy Rogers and Dale Evans with their 1955 recording of Jesus Loves the Little Children. We end with Randy Travis performing I'm Gonna Have a Little Talk With Jesus. This may be my favorite version of this song.

Now for an episode of TV's The Roy Rogers Show. This episode is from 1956 and is called Empty Saddles. It is the 13th episode of the show's fifth season. The show would run six seasons in total.

Also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God's gift to man. Ecclesiastes 3:13A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed. Proverbs 15:13So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. John 16:22Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is LORD," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 Thanks for joining me for Cowboy Church again this week. Happy trails to you until we meet again.
