Cowboy Church #22

Hello my friends welcome to another service of Cowboy Church.

We start with The Sons of the Pioneers' 1937 recording of Lord You Made the Cowboy Happy. Next comes Marty Robbins' 1953 recording of a country gospel song he wrote himself, Kneel and Let the Lord Take Your Load. After this comes Roger Miller performing So Saith He the Lord. This is a demo recording that would eventually be released on the 1995 box set, King of the Road: The Genius of Roger Miller. Johnny Cash had a special fondness for both gospel songs and railroad songs. With this it should be no surprise that he would record This Train is Bound For Glory. This recording is from his 1979 gospel album A Believer Sings the Truth and features John's wife June. This song was originally written and performed by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, one of the most influential gospel singers of the 1930's and 40's and one who had a huge influence on early rock and roll. Many of you may think of When the Saints Go Marchin' In as a jazz song. However this next version is far from jazz. In fact it is as country as it can get. This version is from Hank Williams. This live recording is from his 1951 Mother's Best radio show. Next comes Charley Pride performing All His Children. Charley recorded this song for the Paul Newman movie, Sometimes a Great Notion (1971) and it was used during the opening credits of that movie. Arranging this version of the song is Henry Mancini, who did the score for the movie. We end our musically selection off with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans performing The Place Where I Worship

You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden, neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it in the house, so it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way let your light shine before others so that they may see your good deeds and praise Father in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16Some boast in chariots, and some boast in horses, but we shall boast in the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7And the sons of Israel, the priests, the Levites and the rest of the exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy. Ezra 6:16

For We are God's Handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 Thanks for joining me again this week. Come back next week for more Cowboy Church. Happy trails to you until we meet again.
