Hello again my friends and welcome back to another addition of Cowboy Church.
We start with The Carter Family's 1940 recording of Meeting in the Air. Next up comes the Sons of the Pioneers' 1937 recording of Dwelling In Beulah Land. At this Time Leonard Syle (who would later change his name to Roy Rogers) was still a member. He would leave the band the next year. However Roy and the Sons would remain close friends, and the group would appear in many of Roy Rogers' movies. The song refers to Isaiah 62:4; "Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate; but thou shalt be called Hephzibah and thy land Beulah; for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married." Next comes Gene Autry singing a pure cowboy gospel song, Silver Spurs (on Those Golden Stairs). Gene co-wrote this song with Cindy Walker. This recording is from 1945. Now for a very late recording from Johnny Cash, When the Roll is Called Up Yonder. This song had a strong emotional connection to Johnny because it was played at his brother Jack's funeral. Next comes an original George Jones gospel song. George cowrote this song and recorded it in 1967. We Continue with Willie Nelson's version of Family Bible from his 1971 album Yesterday's Wine. Next come Hank Williams performing I Heard My Savoir Call on the Mother's Best Radio show in 1951. This song came about when the country group The Bailes Brothers said they would pay $15 for a good song about God. A booking agent named Tillman Franks. Tillman Franks would book Hank some gigs in his early years. We end with a song from The Charlie Daniels Band's 1994 gospel album, The Door. This song was written by the band themselves.
Now for a 1956 episode of The Roy Rogers Show (1951-1957), Money is Dangerous.
"When you pass through the water I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the holy one of Israel, your savoir." Isaiah 43:2
Thanks for joining me and as always happy trails to you until we meet again.
