Snoopy and D-Day

Today marks the 75th adversary of D-Day. This of course is one of the most important days of World War 2. For any of you who do not know the history of this day I suggest clicking here.

It is sadly rare for a newspaper comic strip to salute this day, but Charles Schultz did just that with his Peanuts comic strip. Snoopy is of course more associated with WW1 than WW2. He was a WW1 flying ace who went up against the Red Baron. These strips were of course completely played for comedy and were often hilarious. Two strips Charles Schultz's made remembering D-Day featuring Snoopy would be done in a more serious matter. Here are those strips.

Charles Schultz also made some strips about D-Day with Snoopy that had a much more comedic tone. Including a series of strips that ran from June 6-11, 1994. Here are those.

  1. There was a terrific Peanuts special "What Have We Learned Charlie Brown" where the Peanuts gang (in France on student exchange, this special was an adjunct to the movie "Bon Voyage Charlie Brown") learn all about the invasion, visit the American cemetery, Omaha Beach, and includes some historic footage as well as part of Eisenhower's speech. Later, they also visit Flander's Fields and learn some about WWI. I have an old, old VHS tape of this, and it has FINALLY become available on DVD, but only in the "Peanuts: Emmy Honored Collection"
