Movie Review: Men in Black International

Michael's Movie Grade: C+

Review: This film is not one that will leave any lasting impression on you nor will it be one that will ever be considered a great film. However if you want a fun little trip to the movies than this provides you with just that.

Of course a big selling point for the film is that it reteams Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. This is certainly not a bad reason to see this film. The two play off fantastically with each other here. There are scenes where it is simply just fun to watch them together and how they play off each other. Their interplay provides the film with its few laugh out loud moments. Just because there are few laugh out loud funny moments does not mean the humor fails. You may not laugh out loud but you may chuckle at much of the humor. Similarly the action scenes are pretty fun, even if they never reach the heights they could have. Helping these action scenes and humor is the fact that these new characters are quite likable. Agent H, Agent M and Pawny are not the most developed characters to be in an action comedy, but they are easy enough to root for.

One of this film's surprisingly best assets is actually that it can kind of suck you into the world in which it was taking place. While most of this film, even some of the good things, are things that feel kind of formulaic, the world around our characters feels quite real and imaginative at times.

The storyline is one we have all seen before with nothing new added at all. It is hard for anyone who has seen more than a couple movies not to know what is going to happen before it does.

Again this is by no means a great film, but it does provide an enjoyable trip to the movies and sometimes that is enough.
