Movie Review: Jackass Forever

Michael's Movie Grade: B

Dumb, crude, immature and really really funny.

It really is amazing that the Jackass franchise works as well as it does. By all means it shouldn't. These movies (and the TV show they are based on) should come off as overly crude, immature and painful, but instead they come off as hilarious. I think the main reason for this is actually pretty simple. It is the people we are watching that make the movies work. These guys are just so darn likable and underneath all these dangerous stunts you can tell they truly care about each other. There is a real love between these guys that even a newcomer can pick up on instantly and this helps bring a real charm to the movie, that would not be there if it was anyone else doing these stunts. There is also an infectious energy that these guys have that is completely irresistible. These are full grown adults who never lost their love for immature middle school type of humor and have no shame in that. Many adults like to think they have grown beyond this type of humor and that is why it is simply so enjoyable to watch these guys embrace it so much. Because of this infectious energy and joy, we are able to shed our pretentious adult snobbishness and simply enjoy the immaturity with them. There is something about watching others embrace their childish side that makes us feel more at ease embracing it ourselves. This is also why this film should be seen in a movie theater because being around other people laughing their self's silly makes us join in all the more. As well as this often times these guy's reactions and comments on the stunts are just as funny if not funnier than the stunts themselves. All in all, I certainly found myself laughing out loud many times watching this and I am sure many of you will too. Just embrace your inner middle schooler and leave your pretentious adult selves at the door.

P.S. Being the country music fan that I am, I noticed Johnny Knoxville's Waylon Jennings belt buckle and I whole heartedly approve.
