Cowboy Church #44

Hello my friends and welcome back to another service of Cowboy Church.

Today's musical selection begins with Gene Autry singing The Last Roundup in a clip from his movie, The Singing Hill (1941). Gene had recorded The Last Roundup well before this movie. That was in 1933, the year before his first film. This song was written by Billy Hill, who also wrote the cowboy music classics, Empty Saddles and Wagon Wheels. He also wrote a song called That's When Your Heartaches Begin. Though that song first became popular when The Ink Spots recorded it in 1941, most music fans remember it as an Elvis Presley song and in fact in was one of the first recordings Elvis ever made being a B side of his early 1953 demo record at Sun before becoming a professional singer (The A Side was My Happiness). Next is Skeeter Davis singing the gospel classic Precious Memories from her 1967 gospel album Hand and Hand With Jesus. After this is The Sons of the Pioneers performing Cowboy Camp Meeting in a clip from the Roy Rogers movie, Rainbow Over Texas (1946). The members of the Sons of the Pioneers as many cowboy music fans know changed quite often. At this time the group was composed of Ken Carson, Hugh Farr, Shug Fischer, Tim Spencer, Bob Nolan and Karl Farr. In this clip Ken Carson sings lead vocals and Hugh Farr plays the preacher. Ken Carson's voice is at the height of its power here, and he has never sounded better. This song was a Sons original written by Tim Spencer, who had been a member of the group since their formation in 1933.This is followed by Johnny Cash singing I Talk to Jesus Everyday. Afterwards is Roy Rogers and Dale Evans 1955 recording of Jesus Loves The Little Children. This was released as a Little Golden Record with The Lord is Gonna Take Good Care of You. Willie Nelson continues with his recording of There is a Fountain from his masterful 1976 gospel album, The Troublemaker. Ending today's musical selection George Jones treats us with a lovely version of How Beautiful Heaven Must Be.

Today's movie is a silent short starring the one and only Broncho Billy Anderson. The film is titled Broncho Billy and the School Mistress (1912).

Psalm 34

1 I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.

2 I will glory in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

3 Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.

8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

9 Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.

10 The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

11 Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

12 Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days,

13 keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies.

14 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry;

16 but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth.

17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.

18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

19 The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all;

20 he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.

21 Evil will slay the wicked; the foes of the righteous will be condemned.

22 The LORD will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matthew 6:14 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace. Ephesians 1:7

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 20:31

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

Each one helps his neighbor And says to his brother, "Be strong!" So the craftsman encourages the smelter, And he who smooths metal with the hammer encourages him who beats the anvil, Saying of the soldering, "It is good"; And he fastens it with nails, So that it will not totter. Isaiah 41:6-7
