Hello my friends and welcome back to another service of Cowboy Church.
Today's musical selection starts off with The Sons of the Pioneers with a lovely performance of How Great Thou Art. Next comes The Gospel Plowboys with Rise and Shine. This is followed by The Sons of the San Joaquin with Beyond the Sunset from their 1997 album Gospel Trails. Next comes Jim Reeves with This World is Not My Home from his 1962 album, We Thank Thee. Jim Reeves was one of the most popular artists of what is known as the countrypolitan sound. This is an easy listening more pop ordinated version of country music that was popular at this time. This type of music often featured an orchestra and a crooning type of delivery from the singer. Few did this type of country as well as Jim Reeves, and that can definitely be heard in this lovely recording. After this is the Monroe Brothers with their 1937 recording of He Will Set Your Fields on Fire. Counting with another bluegrass gospel song is Ralph Stanley with A Mother's Prayer. Though this recording comes from his 2011 album of the same name and Ralph is not young here, his voice still has an incredible power and it is hard to picture any singer doing this song as well. The music continues with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans with It is no Secret (What God Can Do). This is followed by George Jones with Amazing Grace and regardless of how many people sang this song, no one sings it better. This music selection ends with Gene Autry performing Music by the Angels in a clip from the movie The Old West (1952).
Today's cowboy movie is a silent Tom Mix Western, In the Days of the Thundering Herd (1914). This film is fast paced fun of the type any Tom Mix fan (or any red blooded American boy) will love.
