I am sure many of you like me are huge fans of the classic German Expressionist films of the silent era. Some of the best of these movies featured Carl Mayer as a writer. His credits include
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920),
The Last Laugh (1924) and
Tartuffe (1925). He was also a writer on what is considered by many to be one of the best films of the silent era,
Sunrise (1927). I was immediately intrigued when I passed by his name (admittedly spelled "Karl") in an old movie magazine. Here is that article which features words from the man himself. This article is from a 1938 issue of World Film News. If you have trouble reading these pages click on them and use your touch screen to zoom in.
