Cowboy Church #184

Hello my friends and welcome to another service of Cowboy Church.

Today's musical selection begins with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans singing Have You Read the Bible Today.  It is important for each of us to read our Bible each and every day. The Bible is not just some book, it is the living breathing word of God. It is easy for our faith and Christian walk to become idle and stagnant and the easiest way for this to happen is to simply not read our Bible. Taking some time each day to read the Bible is the best way for our faith and our walk with God to continue growing and maturing.  This recording is the B-side of a 1955 Little Golden Record by Roy and Dale. The A-side was The Bible Tells Me So

This is followed by The Zion Hummingbirds with When Jesus Comes

Afterwards is Earl Scruggs and Tom T. Hall with Lonesome Valley. This comes from a 1982 album they made together called The Storyteller and the Banjo Man. The Oak Ridge Boys provide background vocals on this track.

Then comes Johnny Cash with The Reverend Mr. Black. This comes from his 1981 album, The Baron.

Following this is Cliff Carlisle with his 1939 recording of Prepare Me O Lord.

Now for The Jordanaires with Love Lifted Me. This song was written by James Rowe and Howard E. Smith in 1912 and was based on two stories from the book of Matthew. One was asleep in the boat with the apostles during a storm. As the apostles were terrified of the storm, they couldn't understand how Jesus was so calm that he could take a nap. They wake Jesus up from his nap and Jesus simply tells the storm to stop and it does. The other story also involved the apostles, Jesus and the sea. It was about how when his eyes were fixed upon Jesus, he was able to walk on the water, but he lost the ability when his faith faltered and he looked away. Still Jesus was a faithful friend and lifted Peter into a boat. Rowe's daughter would later state,  “ I can see them now, my father striding up and down humming a bar or two, and Howard E. playing it and jotting it down…The two huddled together, working line by line, bar by bar, composing this hymn in tandem.”

Then comes Anne Wilson with Sinner's Prayer. This comes from her most recent album, 2024's Rebel

Today's musical selection ends with The Sons of the Pioneers with their 1937 recording of Power in the Blood

Now for an episode of Roy Rogers' radio show.

Now for a message from S.M. Lockridge.

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 1 John 4:18

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 2 Corinthians 13:11

They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it. 1 Peter 3:11

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:9

urely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense ; he has become my salvation. Isaiah 12:2
