Movie Review: Warfare

 Michael’s Movie Grade: B

A well made experiment.

Warfare is a movie that is much easier to admire than it is to like. This film shows us a particularly harsh and brutal day during the Iraq War. It tells its story in real time with its focus constantly on the same group of American soldiers. The movie comes as a constant assault on your senses without a single moment of relief. Every second there are people screaming in pain, explosions, gunfire and extreme violence. Like the soldiers, we don’t enjoy the experience but rather endure it. There is nothing about this movie that could be described as entertaining but it is certainly a true cinematic experience, even if an unpleasant one.

This movie does have one major flaw though. That is weak characterization. By the end of the film, it is hard to remember a single character’s name, much less his personality.

This is a movie that will have a real impact on any audience, even if nothing here can ever be considered enjoyable.
