Scooby-Doo Where Are You!: Mine Your Own Business (1969)

A truly delightful episode.

In this episode the gang finds themselves in a ghost town for a night. When they stop at the inn, they learn it is empty because of the ghost of the Miner Forty-Niner.

There is a lot to love about this episode. The ghost town is a wonderfully atmospheric setting for a Scooby mystery. The background art here is simply amazing. Not only is it a joy to look at but it gives this whole mystery a wonderfully atmospheric feel. This is especially true with the use of colors including a great use of dark blue in all the indoor scenes. This color gives this a delightfully creepy feel. Just as effective is the use of green in the scenes in the mine. While he doesn't look very ghostly, the Miner Forty-Niner is a very fun villain. His bulky build and expressionless face make him feel like a real threat adding a good sense of suspense to this episode. The big chase scene is really fun and exciting. This episode also benefits from some solid gags, especially the slapstick involving Shaggy and Scooby.

The only real complaint I have is that like many of the early Scooby mysteries, it is too easy to figure out who the bad guy is. This is once again due to simply a lack of suspects.

The title of this episode would later be used again for a 1982 Scrappy & Yabba-Doo cartoon. The Miner Forty-Niner would later be one of the villains whose costume is brought to life in the live action theatrical movie Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed   (2004).

This is an excellent episode that should delight all Scooby fans.
