Cowboy Church #210

Hello my friends and welcome back for another service of Cowboy Church.

Today's musical selection begins with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans with Jesus Loves the Little Children.  Jesus would state, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me." There is no doubt that Jesus did love the little children, and he loves us big children too. If we will humble ourselves and become like little children, the blessings he has for us are immeasurable.

This is followed by Henry Burr with his 1907 recoding of One More Day's Work for Jesus. Though Henry Burr is not well remembered today, at the turn of the century, he was a major singing star. He helped popularize such songs as In The Shade of the Old Apple Tree and I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now.

Afterwards is Ernest Tubb with Love Lifted Me.  This song was written by James Rowe in 1912 and was based on two stories from the book of Matthew. One was asleep in the boat with the apostles during a storm. As the apostles were terrified of the storm, they couldn't understand how Jesus was so calm that he could take a nap. They wake Jesus up from his nap and Jesus simply tells the storm to stop and it does. The other story also involved the apostles, Jesus and the sea. It was about how when his eyes were fixed upon Jesus, he was able to walk on the water, but he lost the ability when his faith faltered, and he looked away. Still Jesus was a faithful friend and lifted Peter into a boat.

Then comes RaeLynn with Judgin' to Jesus. This song comes from her 2020 EP, Baytown

Next is Eddie Dean with When I Move to That New Ranch

Then comes The Sons of the Pioneers with their 1937 recording of Lord You Made the Cowboy Happy. This song should remind us of how blessed we truly are. It is the things we take for granted each day that are our greatest blessings. Sometimes we need to stop and simply thank God for these blessings. The narrator of this song is not thankful for any big event in his life, but rather for all the little blessing he receives every day.

Now for Johnny Cash with What is Truth. This version of the song was performed on an episode his TV show that aired on April 15, 1970. It is very easy for every generation to simply dismiss everything that any generation younger than them say. Yet historically each younger generation is smarter than older generations give them credit for. While younger generations can definitely learn a lot from older generations, older generations can also learn a lot from younger generations. One should never become stagnant in their beliefs or outlook but constantly be changing, adapting and learning. When we stop do those things, we stop thinking and that is something we should never do.

Today's musical selection ends with Kris Kristofferson performing a song he wrote called Pilgrim's Progress.

Up next is a 1929 film of an old wild west rider talking about riding for the Pony Express in the days of the old west.

Now for a sermon from Martin Luther King Jr.

My grace is all you need, for my power is the greatest when you are weak. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him. Exodus 15:2

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. Proverbs 25:21

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed. Proverbs 19:17

Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him. Proverbs 14:31

Thanks for joining me. Come back next week for another service of Cowboy Church. Happy trails to you until we meet again.
