This is the third segment of the fourth episode of The All-New Super Friends Hour, unlike most other Super Friends formats, this one had hour long episodes that were made up of various shorter cartoons. The first segment would be an adventure staring two members (or three in some cases as Batman and Robin would often team with another Super Friend) of the Super Friends. The second would be a morality play staring the Wonder Twins. The third would be a typical half hour Super Friends adventure. The fourth and last segment would feature one of the main Super Friends teaming up with a special DC Comics guest star.
In this cartoon, the Super Friends save the day when innocent people are turning into zombie like plant creatures.
This is a very fun cartoon. The plant creatures are delightful villains. They have a real creepy look to them that works very well. There is also a great sense of suspense and creepiness to this episode as we know our heroes (including Superman) could turn into plant creatures at any time. Though it is never too scary for kids watching, there is just enough creepiness to this episode to make it stand out, while still being corny superhero fun. Despite being a creepy themed episode, this cartoon takes place in broad daylight. Somehow though this day-time swamp setting is incredibly effective.
This is simply a wonderfully fun cartoon.
